Right now I have the MXL 990, a stock soundcard in a windows 98, a behringer mixer/preamp and radio shack mic cables.

When I get the rode nt1000, mogami gold mic cables, and the E-mu 1212m soundcard, would my quality improve significantly?
because I'm already pretty nice at mixing and shit ...

    Define significant.
I see too many cats wantin to "upgrade" from a $300 setup to a $500 setup, and they expect it to be a world of difference, and it's not.

Will it be better, yes, will it be worth it, yes.

AON, from an MXL, Eurorack, and stock soundcard
    to Rode, mogami, and emu1212
fuck man, your gonna put all that to the behringer mixer for you pre-amp
    WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?
youll notice a small increase, but if you got a new better pre your increase would be.....very notceable

Yes, I realise the equipment is a step up, but he wants significant, and when I think of that word, I think muddy..undefined, to pristine, untouchable quality.

Well this one kid has a behringer b-1 mic, and his quality is pretty much better than mine, and he has a cheaper behringer mixer than me with a stock soundcard, so I just wanted my quality to be better than his, because I would be fine with quality like that.

    *Edit*
I'm also getting some monitors to replace my shitty computer speakers.

So if you upgraded your mixer it would effect your quality?

Xabition - Better mic cables, mean less noise in your recordings. Stay away from copper wires, Radio Shack cables, etc. Mogami, Blue, Zaolla, these are the way to go.
Monster are good, but WAY too over priced.

illKoncept - Yes, a better mixer, means better quality, to an extent.
The soundcards converters and drivers are where the real deciding factor starts, then the mic pre, mic, mons, cables, etc.
Every part of the studio plays a very important role.

Since everybody said don't put those items to my mixer, what pre-amp does anyboddy recommend that would fit to my set-up? I'm probably lookin more for clarity than warmth.

The Digitube offers Nuetrik plugs if I remember right, so that's probably why he freaked lol.
Nuetrik plugs, take XLR AND 1/4" plugs, that's why it has 3 small holes around the large in the middle.
