LOS ANGELES - The son of R&B singer Chaka Khan pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder Tuesday in the shooting death of a 17-year-old boy at a party last fall.

Damien Patrick Holland, 25, surrendered to police Monday after he learned that prosecutors had charged him in the death of Christopher Baily, of Los Angeles. Prosecutors allege that Holland shot Baily at a September 2004 party as the two struggled for a gun during a fight.

Holland was initially arrested after the September 2004 shooting, but was released when prosecutors said they didn't have enough evidence to charge him. Investigators recently found witnesses to the shooting, which allowed the district attorney's office to charge Holland, according to an earlier police statement.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Paula Adele Mabrey reduced Holland's $2 million bail to $500,000 and set a March 15 date for a preliminary hearing in the case.

Khan, 51, is known hits such as "Tell Me Something Good" and "I Feel For You."
