i love how the main topic of this thread was diverted to accusations of being a backpacker and a nerd because i enjoy the roots of hip hop culture.

anyway back to my main point.

watching a clip like this gives me more hope for hip hop

it was ight...they have these hiphop shows at my college every semester..not bad..its good entertainment...i dont see wat makes this more "hiphop" than other things..its just another facet of hiphop thats all....

: atl stomps around the sarcasm: exactly...see the real problem is..i think people take hiphop too seriously at times..at the heart and root of it all..its entertainment...its fun..its made to dance to...now of course its branched off into different facets and genres and cultures..but its still entertainment..that video clip is entertainment..that quote in my sig is entertainment...thats it..nothing else...now the only problem i see with it is that children cannot distinguish this so they think its reality instead of just entertainment...and the flip side of that is the people who think its NOT entertainment..that all hiphop is more than that..that all hiphop is suppose to have some "message" when in fact..most of the commercial shit is not when u break it down...people seem to plot entertainment against the rest of hiphop..

    nicely put EG

there are obviously two sectors of the hip hop fanbase those who feel its an artform and others who feel its entertainment/party music

my point is thats hiphop is BOTH..why does there have to a division..its pointless..some music is for entertainment..while other types have a broader more "meaningful' purpose..this DIVISION is wats killin hiphop..not the other dumb shit....
