The beauty of life is that it is a mystery, otherwise it'd be boring and predictable.
life is beautiful
wow miscreant 10 post in a row....
i know a few atheist in real life and ive never seen one seriously argue with a christian. on this site its different bcuz people feel safe saying whatever they want.
is your opinion of atheist usually being sad people based off this site, real life people you know, or just a guess? maybe you have had a different experience but in my experience most atheist and christians usually live the same kinds of life with mild differences.
im not sure why you are so concerned about it anyway. i know you don't agree, but if atheist say they are happy without god then just leave it at that. the santuary is here to talk about specific topics not attack each others personal lives.
#SIDENOTE# lol@everybody that doesn't like me saying i must be 15 or 16. we should sticky a quote of the week thread. i hear some funny ass shit on this site every week
you're a fucking tool.
God is Great.
you should be the last person calling anybody "stupid".
this is almost borderline pathetic.
nightmare crossed that border a while ago.
if you read the entire thread, the logic behind the sentiment is quite clear:
-you need god to be happy
-without god, life sucks, is insignificant, etc.
-therefore, atheists are very unhappy people
i understand his logic im giving a difference of opinion
-we dont need god to be happy, they do.
-without god life is basically lived the same. its easy to pick out a goth or fiend but i doubt you can pick out an atheist out of a group without asking.
-im very happy and i dont believe religion makes most people happy except for devout followers which there are few of compared to believers who only go on sundays and do whatever the oher 6 days of the week
i know you are, i just think that writing out the logic point by point gives a hint of the irony that's involved. they don't think that life on its own would be even worth living if there wasn't a divine purpose to it, therefore they think atheists are unhappy. i think that they are projecting.
hey, hey, hey - who's "they".
i never claimed atheists to be unhappy people.
sorry, i should have been more clear. 'they' as in anyone who thinks that believing in god is necessary for happiness, i've seen the sentiment expressed more than once but i haven't exactly been keeping track of who has said it.
it's necessary for me, but doesn't have to be for everybody else.
and the joy i feel knowing god is with me, is very different to the joy i feel about the usual things (social, material, carreer, success, sex, etc.) those joys are temporary.
but my lord isn't, so even in death that joy lives on.
right, well that's sorta my point. it's necessary for you, and so if you assumed it was necessary for everybody else then the idea that atheists are unhappy would be perfectly logical. just like if i was to project my own point of view onto you or other believers, from what you have said i would conclude that you are unhappy. i.e. in my reality, god the afterlife and eternity are conceptions rather than a physical extension of reality. so if those things were all that was worthwhile in life to a person, and a life which lacked those things was insignificant and shit, then that person would seem to be pretty unhappy with the actual life that was given to them. but that would be a short sighted conclusion cause to that person, those things are real and hence they are happy. dunno if i'm explaining this right, hope that makes sense.
