I went to Borders the other day and bought a book called "All You Need to Know About the Music Business" by Donald S. Passman. Has anybody ever read this book and is this a good book? I've only just glanced through a few pages and it seems like it might be more for an artist and not about starting a label.

Anyways what would be a good book to get for the business side and the legal side of starting a record label?

Cool, I got to reading it the other day and it does have some good shit in it. I'm up to the royalties and there a question that I have about advances.

How would I give the artist their advance if I dont have the money needed?

    Or.

Is there a different route that I can take that would eliminate giving the artist an advance?
