and you don't need lessons, just free ones off the internet will do fine.

but if you know someone who plays, asking them questions and stuff would help. plus you could have them tune it whenever you accidentally knock it out of tune.

start off just practicing notes, don't jump straight into chords.

it takes a guitar thread to get me to post three times in the alley. rap sucks.

I'm going to learn the guitar soon. I just need a guitar first...but I don't even know what kind to get because I want a good enough one, but it can't be super expensive.. =\

Don't even get lessons... it's gay. My brother and tons of other people I know just taught themselves...and they're super good. My brother always uses mxtabs.com to get his tabs...if that helps in anyway..?

if you aren't going to get lessons, at the very least learn the basic principles of music theory.

i want a gibson, but everyone i've come across is expensive as fuck.

i had a les paul knock off i bought at a pawn shop but it played like shit...similar to the washburn i use now.

    dropped tunings sound horrible.

for the thread started, i'd advise getting an acoustic guitar and starting off on that. fuck around and jam on the electric, but actually practice and learn on an acoustic. i started off on a classical acoustic, and i'm glad. i found it harder and mistakes like muffled strings can be heard clearer. by the time i got my first electric the switch was nothing.

but yea, do what jesus said. learn up on music theory. really, just learn about pentatonics and memorize the fretboard until you know every note like the back of your hand. it will really come in handy for composing and improv soloing.

Yeah, i've gotten everything i've wanted so far. Usually if a version's wrong you can fix it by ear or there's 10 other ones.

Or you can start out on a tube amp and it'll lower your self-esteem even after you get pretty good.
