Sorry, I'm at work 'n just listenin' to this song over and over again and I just got inspired to make this thread, even though I never come to this part of the forum....

And I mean, NEW ERA R&B... Not that old, soul-style from back in the day...

And she ain't even my favorite R&B Artist (that would be John Legend...)

I'll say one of the best in RECENT years.

"Love" by Musiq and "Ordinary People" by JL will probably be my favorite RnB songs until I die.

He's a Lupe fan... so what do you expect?

    What's "New Era R&B?" Post-2000? Post-'90s? Hip Hop Soul? Neo-soul? Crunk N B?

    Please elaborate.

You're about to open a whole new can of worms...
Wait, I get it. You don't like Lupe because he's obviously influenced by Jay...
    Comedy.

    No seriously though.
How is he a horrible MC?

Actually, he's influenced by Nas... didn't he say he patterned his album after IWW?

Nah man, dude got good verbal skills, he just can't spit... and I'm not feelin' his voice... he reminds me of Talib Kweli circa '97 before he smoothed out the rough edges in his delivery and improved his light mic presence. And he has absolutely no energy... he was the most energetic on that Kanye track "Touch the Sky" than anything.

I don't know... when I was 18, I used to like the Souls of Mischief, so maybe it's that I'm gettin' older and I can't tolerate such pre-pubescent voices anymore.

He did in fact, but if you'd just listen...
You'd know that his vocal mannerisms are eerily similar to Jay's.

I'm speechless behind that evaluation of LF.
That guy rides a beat like nobody's business.

Go back and listen to his verse on Kanye's "Touch The Sky".
    Flawless vocal execution (delivery).

He doesn't have trouble with his phrasing. At all.

    Come on Kon.
He's not that type of rapper. He's a student of conversational flow.
    Kane, Jay, BIG...

I'm really not moved either way about how a rapper sounds.
Voice is one of the least important things in my book.
Probably because quite a few rap cats have annoying voices.

No, I don't see it... Jay is more conversational and uses more inflections.

Name a song, because I only listen to the album one time and nothing stood out as far as a riding the beat.

I already named that as his best example so far... I liked his wordplay, too, on that song... "I'm back like I'm laying on the street," "...possessed like a gun charge."

KRS is the father of the conversational flow, btw.

I don't see it much with Lupe. He's too monotonous (not that that's a bad thing) to have a conversational flow, which requires slight tonal variations and vocal inflections.

It's the old school in me... voice was important back then.

Why do you think Rakim named Memphis Bleek as one of his favorites 6 years ago? Memph Bleek has a strong vocal presence, despite his limited lyrical skills.

Other than DMC, who is a given, the best voice in hip hop of all time is LL Cool J. (I figure you'll disagree with that, so I decided to put that out there.)

I'm lost on this one completely...
Lupe's most valuable asset is his ability to rhyme "in the pocket".
He's dope lyrically, but his fluidity of rhyme is what stands out more than anything else. He spits effortlessly. Classic conversational flow.

I can understand if you aren't a fan of Lupe's, but his talents are hard to argue with.

How's about his first two singles?

You're preaching to the choir fella.

I'm guessing you haven't heard "Failure".

Each is his own I 'spose.
I don't hear anything particularly intriguing about his voice.

I won't give you any trouble there.
Dre deserves to at least be mentioned though.
