Over the years, many RapMusic.com board members have had the pleasure of chatting with Pakistani rapper Adil Omar. Those of us who have spoken to him know he’s been working tirelessly towards a successful music career. Although he’s already established himself as a force in underground music by performing shows across the world and collaborating with major players such as B-Real, Everlast, Penn Jillete, Xzibit, and more, we may soon see him rise to much greater (more visible) venues.

This week, his hard work has paid off to a milestone. Adil Omar teamed up with Haroon, a Pakistani Pop-star with millions of record sales to his name, who together perform the theme song for an all new Urdu-language television cartoon titled “Burka Avenger”. The song (performed entirely in English) is called “(Don’t Mess with the) Lady in Black”. It’s a fun, catchy, well-produced single for the series which debuts Sunday, July 28th.

“Lady in Black” debuted with an accompanying music video, which you can check out here:

Despite curbing his vulgarity, the song turned out great. Its release has returned Adil Omar to the mainstream media’s graces and has been covered by media outlets Yahoo, The Guardian, ABC, and more.

I spoke to Adil to learn what the series was all about:
“It’s an educational, but edgy children’s TV show. Haroon, along with performing the theme song with me, is also the creator of the show. Considering his star power, it’s no wonder it’s gotten a wave of huge media press”.
I asked him more about Haroon. This was my first time hearing of him as an American.
“Haroon’s a legend. He was insanely popular in the 1990s. He had the biggest pop band in the country and they were doing world tours and selling millions of records. It was an honor to work with him”.

In the 1960's, if a British politician referred to the people of Pakistan as "a bunch of Paki's", it would have been racist. 50 years later, the word no longer carries that connotation out of context. I don't appreciate the insinuation that I'm using a racist term, and I hope you enjoyed the article.

Paki Rambo himself approved the article, and will be sharing it with his family, friends, and fans. Thanks @Adil Omar!

Paki actually is a racist term in the UK and a lot of Western Europe still. Maybe not so much in the US, but it very much does still have a negative connotation in a lot of the world.
