Kendrick Lamar imo... one verse sent a shockwave through the industry and awoke some of my favorite rappers that I havent heard shit from. rappers who wouldn'tve done shit if not for the control verse

    runners up:

Chance the Rapper- Aciid rap was the best album this year, so this was pretty close
Nas- based on that Made Nas Proud track, cuz it was fucking awesome
jay-z- magna carta was dope, plus the nigga went plat before the album dropped... I gotta respect...

    what about you guys?

This year hasn't really been all that. It was an average year. Some good, some bad. But nothing AMAZING. I do agree that Kendrick Lamar was the best out this year though. And I was thinking that even before the infamous Control verse.

Maybe if more of these rappers had more of a mind set of trying to out-do their contemporaries rather than simply copy and pasting whatever formula is hot at the time then we'd have a hell of alot less to complain about these days. But with the new artists coming out the future does look bright though.

I think it cool. I don't like the word average, it's like "meh" and this year wasn't "meh".

Doris, Barmageddon, that Joey Bad mixtape, Ghost, Czarface and Deltron.

yea Nas' one verse on "Made Nas Proud" was totally better than J. Cole's entire album.

    Right.

This year has been fine, many albums worth listening to.

Can't front, that verse was FIRE!

"I ain't mad at you, young king, this unsung song is haunting
Along comes a one son called a offspring
The Earth spins, my Old Earth grin, sung a church hymn"

if anything, i fucking hated that control song that kendrick featured on.

i wouldn't include nas or jay in this list, they're veterans and it's unfair on the new comers.

so with that said, i'll have to say either dirt platoon or chance the rapper.

for me, the regulars that normally impress me simply fell flat...

Tyler's album had some dope songs, but a lot of wack songs.

dessa actually had a great album... but it wasnt rap songs...

i used to be a demigodz fan, and their new album reminded me of why i stopped listening to them... theyve all spent their whole careers trying to be eminem.

when kanye drops an album, its usually my favorite album for the next 2 years. Yeezus was very creative, but I just didnt like the sound.

the fact that nobody really knocked it out of the park with an album other than chance is what really got to me.

doris was good, but not great... earl still refuses to rap at any time of day other than 4a.m. dude always has that same nyquil cadence. czarface is the one with esoteric right? i had my fill of dude during my demigodz phase... he doesn't switch up his style much either... i could be wrong tho man.

i still gotta hear ghostface tbh.

thats the thing. you used the phrase "worth listening to." not "amazing" or excellent"

every year theres at least a few albums that are fuckin breathtakingly awesome.

Considering Somethin Else is the best album this year, Tech has my vote.

I heard something else too... it was dope, but for me personally, I cant listen to a whole album of tech9ne... dude always raps extremely fast the same way and doesnt change the way he raps for the specific song the way bone did when they were in their prime.

idk, i'm prolly just being an asshole here.
