wow, never knew scott oake from hnic was bruce's dad
r.i.p. once again
WOWOW. For anyone in the Toronto area watching the Leaf game tonight, Dave Hodge actually said "And our prayers and thoughts go out to the family & friends of Bruce Oake, a young Calgary native who recently passed." I saw Bruce had a picture with someone from CBC, but anyone in Canada knows that's something special coming from TSN Eastern primetime, during the (2nd, I believe) intermission.
It's funny cause I actually showed my homies who the guy was cause they were all like "wtf, why are they shouting out a rando.." and I showed them his battles and told them how young he was and how much he meant to some members of the community there. Big ups.. I dunno if Daley or Sketch caught that since it was a TSN Eastern game but I'm sure some people definitely did a double-take when they heard that.
i missed that man, thanks for letting us know though. dope to have him remembered on such a large scale. his friends and family also appreciate the battle rap community and how supportive and respectful it has been.
^Yea man for sure, I did NOT catch all of it, though I wish I did. But I heard Bruce Oake and I was in a little bit of disbelief hearing it. Like wow, that's crazy.. TSN sending a message of support during a time where audience is probably pretty high. I can only imagine how many people out there who heard it must have said "wow, I've heard of that guy" and then went on to digress how his battles made them laugh or smile, etc.
From the Globe and Mail:
Cybulski signs on with TSN Radio - The Globe and Mail
"Finally, condolences to Hockey Night in Canada host Scott Oake and his wife, Anne, on the passing of their son, Bruce. Oake is one of the most decent people in the business, and our thoughts to go to him and his family. Donations can be made in Bruce’s memory to Simon House, 5819 Bowness Road NW, Calgary, AB, T3B 0C5."
so fucking sad man wow
Q shouted him out on National TV tonight aswell after winning his battle
incredible to see the support!
Condoleances from the entire PunchOut mc battles staff, r.i.p
Bruce B was a dope battle mc, really liked his 2 vs 2 peformance.
I suggest a best of Bruce B vid?..
im working on one and it should be done by the end of the weekend.
its nothing "official" unless KOTD wants to make it that way though.
lexington, whatevski, ovabyte, myself & nebula are all working on a tribute track right now. i think we will release our song and video as the official tribute however all support is welcomed, thanks alot kingfly bruce would have loved that.
If you guys feel like you NEED to know what happened, just google it and it will pop up, but I feel it's not something to post about on a message board for everyone to see.
This seriously sucks though...I remember when I heard about the 2 v 2 grand prix I was hoping Daley/Bruce B would enter, what a great duo...RIP. Shit's crazy
Very sad to hear. Always sucks to lose someone so young, especially if they're close to us (battle rap community)
Wow I just heard what happened & can't believe it! But my condolences goes out to his friends & family members, even though I never meet him.. he seemed like a cool person who loved music & rap battling. & he will definlty not be forgotten.. R.I.P. BRUCE B.
