Well, its not so much that Pemdas is a lie. Its just some bullshit that the school system created to simplify shit for kids who have trouble understanding how to do math. Actually, When I did the problem I wasnt even thinking about Order of Operations. I freestyled the math problem on some Beautiful Mind shit and got the right answer, which is 288.

you know people dont know shit about math when they differentiate between division and multiplication or addition and subtraction.
lol i've actually taken abstract algebra (rings and fields) in university.
rings have two operations multiplication and addition. division is just multiplication of the inverse. note rings dont require multiplicative inverses. fields do though. substraction is just addition of the additive inverse.
this holds for fields. including the rationals which is what this question is in.
Therefore pedmas should read, PEMA

i havent see that division symbol once since like grade 11 and im one week from completing my third year of my math degree. there's a reason it's not used... these arguments are PRECISELY the reason... i vote that the division symbol gets removed from mathematics it serves no purpose

To get 2 you have to technically add in brackets. As the original equation stands its the 2nd one. To get 2 it would be 48÷(2(9+3)).
48(2(9+3)) - Wolfram|Alpha
Now since that is obviously not the original equation.
Top one WRONG. 48÷(2(9+3))=2
Bottom one RIGHT. 48÷2(9+3)=288
