    288

    Order of operations.

A common technique for remembering the order of operations is the abbreviation "PEMDAS", which is turned into the phrase "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally". It stands for "Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication and Division, and Addition and Subtraction".

Yeah actually I changed it to 2 after reading it again but then I changed it back to 288 because even though multiplication comes before division I'm pretty sure it's multiplication and division then addition and subtraction, interchangeably from left to right.

I'm not 100% positive though. I've been out of school for a while now.

    edit: Here we go

This tells you the ranks of the operations: Parentheses outrank exponents, which outrank multiplication and division (but multiplication and division are at the same rank), and these two outrank addition and subtraction (which are together on the bottom rank). When you have a bunch of operations of the same rank, you just operate from left to right.

Ha whatever I got it right the first time then I started to doubt my math for a second when I reread the quote I posted then I realized that I was right the first time, I was just confusing myself.

Yeah but multiplication doesn't come before division, they are done at the same time from left to right. Dmac is doing it right.
