I'm calling it... I called it earlier this year in a similar thread... but fuck man its dec. 31st and unless Nas goes beyonce and drops an album out of nowhere in the next few hours then I'm officially calling it..... NO CLASSICS. NONE... no albums that could even be considered classic later on.

now i know yall are gonna come in here and scream about action bronson and ghostface and prodigy etc...

but hold on... I'm not saying there were no good albums...

I'm saying there were no albums that were straight up phenomenal.

    so many fucking let downs...

    kanye let me down

    childish gambino let me down

    kid cudi let me down

    hopsin let me down

louis logic still fucking exists some how

my baby girl dessa stopped fucking rapping...

    tyler let me down...

    fuck man...

Really, the recording industry year runs from Oct. to Oct... so we've been in 2014 musically for about 3 months now... lol... you have to consider that the average album run tends to be about 3-6 months.

But for my money... Kendrick Lamar is mainstream MC of the year.

Joey Bada$$, underground MC of the year.

in 2012 there were some personal classics of mine and some critically acclaimed classics as well.

Good Kid Maad City was a classic... (Ignorant says its not really 2012, but hell I have no idea when the music year is..)

Life is Good was a classic

those 2 albums alone shit on 2013.

    okay ms positivity,

how many classics would you say were released this year?

and I mean classic in any sense of the word. whether its classic to everyone, or a personal classic to you, or a cult classic for a specific artist..

or an album that was 10/10 knocked out of the park.

I'd agree in that there are no classics but as always have to disagree towards WORST. There were some great albums, and some letdowns as well.

A big part of that was thanks to Mello Music Group. Personally I really liked Ugly Heroes, Apollo Brown is one of my favorite producers lately. My only complaint is he doesn't really make multiple albums with the same MC but for the most part I've liked the albums he's done. Like Trophies with O.C. or Gas Mask with Journalist 103 and DJ Soko. With Ugly Heroes he hooked up with Verbal Kent and Red Pill

Another one I liked a lot was L'Orange & Stik Figa - The City Under The City. L'Orange the producer has a real old 1920's Jazzy sound with beautiful samples, the Instrumental version was awesome too. Stik Figa isn't the most charismatic but fortunately he's not a slouch with his lyrics.

Totally agree I can never remember a yr where so many albums were hated and a lot of albums are mega overrated this yr said. If Rap Hiphop does not improve like 10 times ASAP it will be dead in 2 to 3 yrs

That would be great actually... I've always rooted for the demise of commercial rap music... leave only the purists... lol

But I think the word "classic" gets tossed around too loosely... just because you really, really, really like an album a whole LOT doesn't make it a classic... classics should be rare, because genius is rare.

well theres different kinds of "classics."

theres the world renowned classics like illmatic and ready 2 die,

then there are cult classics for specific artists... basically their best shit... like "Word of Mouf" is "classic" Ludacris.

I feel you... I make that distinction, too. A lot of critics were/are calling Good Kid... Mad City a classic, though... one critic on HipHopDx compared it to Illmatic.
