Slash - November Rain / Sweet Child Of Mine .. there are more but these 2 stick out in my memory ..

Brian May - Bohemian Rapsody / Friends Will Be Friends / A Kind Of Magic / I Want To Break Free / Killer Queen / Too Much Love Will Kill You ... this list goes on and on tbh, I was bought up listening to Queen .. (advert was just on and reminded me) - 'I Want It All' also has a great solo ..

dunno if you'd class it as a riff > solo .. but whoever plays the guitar in Nirvana's - Smells Like Teen Spirit .. deserves a mention ..

I suggest listening to both of these:

Jimi Hendrix - Are you experienced

Robby Krieger (the Doors) - When the music's over

    Fuck off.

    I hate solos, tbh.

    Self-indulgent bullshit.

    ^Usually, yeah.

I think in the right hands they can be great though. The problem is that people like Zakk Wylde use them to show off fretboard acrobatics. I personally only use them when I want to add a new element to a composition, but even in this case I never noodle.

I heard Stevie Ray Vaughan's cover of Jimi Hendrix's 'Little Wing' for the first time today.

John Mayer's solo was good on his cover of Hendrix's 'Bold as Love'

    Verdad.

I like his work on 'Light My Fire', too.

    Simple but mad sweet.
